Ape Out

Fundamentally you're here for style over substance. You're here to see the brilliant 50s Saul Bass inspired art and hear the jazzy dynamic soundtrack that rises and falls as your ape rakes and mauls. Because the gameplay is repetitive and hamstrung by the randomized maps. Sure early on it was pure fun, my Ape was Out and it was all speed and exploding captors as I mashed my way to exit after exit. And then they introduce flamethrowers and then rocket launchers and levels just became this grueling repetition to see if I got a layout that meant I could actually make it to the end without getting one-shotted due to the restricted view angle that only shows you the direct area around you. Thankfully it was all over in less than 2 hours--but when a solid portion of that was spent repeating the last handful of levels over and over, I can't help but wonder if maybe we should have left the Ape in the cage.
