Kirby's Dream Land 2

I only recently discovered the hamster's name in this game is Rick. Fucking Rick. Hell yeah.

I played this as a wee lad and having the animal friends really made this game special for me. A lot of these old games you're kind of just alone against the world, fighting all these weirdos and monsters. It can be kind of depressing especially as a child playing these games alone in your room. But when all of sudden you have a giant hamster or owl to ride, it becomes a lot better.

This was also probably the first game I ever figured out how to cheese. The key I realized was to hold on to the fireball ability on your way to Dedede and then you could just go back and forth, over and over fucking his penguin ass up. In a way I credit Kirby's Dream Land 2 with my immediate affinity for FromSoft games as soon as I played Demon's Souls in 2009. Thank you, Kirby.

???
I'm definitely inflating this score for nostalgia because it should really be a 8. But damn I did love this game. It was this and Super Mario Land 2 which were my faves on the GameBoy.

This was also probably one of the first games I ever actually beat all the way through. I remember it would take me a bunch of tried to beat Dedede and I'd have to make sure I had the fireball zoot ability but if I did I'd have a pretty good shot of fuckin' the ol' penguin up.
