Incredible to me that playing the shit out of multiplayer in this as a kid (two kids jammed onto one keyboard) it was completely lost on me that this weird Bomberman game was made by Interplay or that amazing death scream I loved hearing over and over was Ren and Stimpy's Billy West. And that Billy West/Charlie Adler voiceover combo is one of two reasons to play Atomic Bomberman even now, 17 odd years later.

The second reason is great soundtrack that is a perfect time capsule of the late 90s. You'd be forgiven for thinking some of the tracks were by The Prodigy in all their pre-millenium techno goodness.

But even without understanding the significance of all the bits and bobs I had a good time. Any time my neighbor would come over he'd beg to play this game and we'd sit there laughing at the fart noises and screams from this "adult" Bomberman that was weirdly perfectly suited to a couple of 8 year olds on a beige Gateway computer.

I remember playing the shit out of this in hotseat multiplayer back in elementary school. Apparently it's a weird American-made offshoot but it's the only one I played and I loved it. Yeah the voice acting was absolutely hilarious. Especially the one that makes you poop bombs. But also the squeals when they'd die. Oh man I loved this game.

Also holy shit I'm rewatching some gameplay and the music was SICK. That late 90s techno/trance/house shit. Really weird and cool. The Classic Green Acres track is so fucking late 90s it's unreal. Awesome.
