Review

Episode 1 is boring garbage. It's worse gunplay that happens to take place in Rapture and it's pretty boring. Basically it's just an excuse to introduce Elizabeth in Rapture where somehow Booker/Comstock has shown up and then Elizabeth getting Comstock murdered as revenge in a somewhat surprise ending.

Episode 2 however is phenomenal. You start as Elizabeth in a fictional Paris and then wake up finding you're still in Rapture and that the old you has died. You've lost all your cool powers and you're on a mission to free the girl you doomed as a part of your revenge in Episode 1.

The story overall is pretty cool in that they show how the two worlds, Columbia and Rapture, link together. Suchong, the doctor working for Andrew Ryan, the creator of Big Daddies, is found to be working with Fink, the industrial guy from Columbia. This explains how both worlds have the commoditized powers using Adam. It also explains the similarities between Songbird and the Big Daddies. The whole thing is tied together by Elizabeth doing what she does in this game which enables Fontaine to basically destroy and attempt to take over Rapture. And she does it all in a sort of "sealed loop" way where it was pre-ordained to cause the protag from Bioshock to free all the Little Sisters on Rapture. Though you're sad to see Elizabeth die at the end to the monster, Fontaine (he does some fucked up stuff in this one), you're glad knowing she sealed his fate and won in the end, finally finding peace from her powers. Or at least, this instance of Elizabeth did.

Perspective-wise it's cool to see Rapture in the Infinite engine.

Gameplay-wise I actually enjoyed the switch to stealthy combat. I turned down the difficulty like halfway through Episode 1, and did the same thing right away on this one. It meant I was able to just kind of bum rush the game 1-shotting people with stealth attacks as I rushed through to see the story.

Overall I'm really happy I came back because it does tie a nice bow on the Bioshock stories.
