Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak

I realized while playing through this expansion that Rise really felt like a step down from World as a player since MH3. But I'll add those notes to my main game review.

So, hey, it's more Monster Hunter, yeah? So reviewing it is basically do you like the new areas and mechanics but really it's "D'ya like the monsters??" And listen, god damn do I like the flagship Malzeno. It's a noble vampire dragon which is a fucking cool idea. And it's moveset includes a fucking warp ability. Yes, that's right: it's an anime knight vampire dragon. Not only that but it introduces an ability on armor that lets you heal by hitting broken parts which I really hope they keep because it's really fun.

But for my money that's pretty much all there is of note. The final boss, Gaismagorm, is pretty cool but not spectacular by any means. The other new guys are Lunagaron a frozen dog and he's fine. And Garangolm a giant orangutan who is also just "pretty cool".

Writing this out, I wonder if maybe after playing this series for a decade it's grown stale for me. It felt like after loving 3 and 4, World renewed my interest but then I played Rise and was like "Well, it's certainly more Monster Hunter." Let's pray for Wilds adding a little spice to the formula.

I think they maybe added some new mechanics but I ignored all those so basically the question is: do you like the new monsters/fights?
