They took MechWarrior and made it MechAss. Instead of figuring out how to translate the full-fat PC MechWarrior experience to console[1], the developers opted to instead remove all the character of MechWarrior with its beautiful convoluted UI, controls, and customization and leave us with an itty bitty arcade-y shooter thing. Plop into a preset mech on a preset level with preset enemies and shoot guns with minimal oomf and watch enemy mechs slowly die from boredom. I'll give it some credit for the visual splendor of its destructible environments but fundamentally this is a facsimile of something much better.
- Maybe they were afraid that Steel Battalion was on the same system already. Some day I'll light half a band on fire to buy a working controller.

I'm watching a YouTube Let's Play and there's no way I completed this. After playing MechWarrior I found the arcade-y combat a little too garbage for me. Just no real feeling that you were operating this complex mech. No customization. Just hey here's a world shoot a bunch of stuff. The destructible-ish environments look cool and it probably did look great for its time but no thanks. Just a weak game IMO.
