Fallout 4: Far Harbor
Review
The best DLC for Fallout 4 for sure. It's got new areas with a cool new vibe. I love the mariner-theme to everything. The new raiders, the new weapons, the new armor, all very cool looking and comes together in a great way. The new enemies are also very cool as well.
Beyond the aesthetics it introduces 3 new areas/factions: Acadia, Far Harbor, and The Children of Atom. I was a little let down by the ability to dive deep into any of these factions, other than maybe the Children of Atom. I completed all the side quests for Far Harbor for instance and learned very little about them in the process which feels like a bummer. On the flip side you get a much closer picture of the Children of Atom and how they operate in this DLC which is cool. That being said, it still keeps the same distance that Fallout 4 had. Everything is very surface level unless maybe if you go reading every single terminal you find which I can't be bothered to do.
The actual main story is pretty cool. You work with a synth who's leading a synth refuge up here while trying to keep the peace between the Children and Far Harbor who keep butting heads and are heading towards imminent war. I like the interplay between the different factions and the reveal of the synth actually murdering the leader of Far Harbor and replacing her with a synth to make them more peaceable. It's one of those rare moral decisions that really has no clear cut good answer and you have a lot of options as to whether you should wipe out the two tribes or to do the morally gray thing of replacing ANOTHER leader with a synth.
Really good stuff actually and I'd say the saving grace. Because ultimately as with a lot of Fallout 4 it's a lot more combat with raiders and super mutants, which gets old after 40 hours.
