Far Cry New Dawn
Review
Finally finished this. I started it back in May of 2019. Played like 10 hours, finished most of the game, and then just kind of bailed.
It's basically Far Cry 5 with some extra RPG elements. Weapon crafting, weapon levels, enemy levels, a stronghold to level up by farming mats from bases. And while this is super addicting for like the first 5 hours it quickly becomes pretty rote... Just like every other Far Cry entry in the series.
The story is honestly pretty bad. It starts with the cool premise that FC5 ended in nukes dropping and somehow life survived. You're a marshal or something for a new govt of America sent to handle some outlaw band. Your train gets hit and everyone gets slaughtered. Then you find this town, the last bastion of civilization out here, in the same land where FC5 took place. The outlaws are led by a crazed pair of twins. And yeah, the writing isn't good and they really do nothing to make you interested or attached to any of the characters. It's all very trite. Main characters get killed off and you're just like "Ugh whatever the baddies are evil I get it." Which, I guess is par for the course in Far Cry.
Anyway, it definitely scratches that Far Cry itch...until you get to the part where boss fights or the "elite" enemies show up which are just bullet sponges and make the combat a tedious slog.
Overall a lot of poor decisions here. I think Far Cry 5 was a lot more fun and better overall.
I was thinking a 6 originally but I'm going to drop it to a 5 given all I just typed up.
