Reus

I yearn for a successor to Black & White and in my desperate search I would buy anything that used the hallowed phrase "god game". The creator's of Reus spoke the sacred chant so in 2013 I was summoned out of the aether materializing to install the game and find...a strategy game. A really basic strategy game that merely used gods as the mechanism for the gameplay. Want a build a farm, let's get a "god" to terraform the earth and infuse it with the right "aspect". Even if I remove my rabid obsession with Black & White everything feels so passive. Which is fine in a game like Civilization where the scale and complexity of the thing means puttering about just to see how things develop is fun enough but here the limits of the 2D ring world that everything's constrained to mean you're basically playing a middling board game by yourself. I guess I'll have to restart my prayers to the gods for another Black & White. I'm sure they'll hear me since it's been 24 years.

Another one I barely remember. What I remember is being really excited that it was a god game and then playing it and realizing it was so pared down that it basically played like a strategy game so light it was more of a puzzle game. Still haven't seen a good successor to Black & White. Bummer.
