Ryse: Son of Rome

When in Rome, do as the Romans. In this case that means a lot of QTEs and an awful lot of vengeance. Executing an emperor's son in front of a coliseum, impaling an emperor upon his own statue, and killing approximately MMMMMXIV centurions along the way. The combat is basically your classic Batman Arkham counter-fest but the visual spectacle of it is incredible even a decade later. So while the counter-counter-counter-attack pattern got old I was still hooked for what amounts to an engrossing 5 hour CGI movie.
???
Really cool game. Gorgeous graphics and a pretty cool tale of vengeance. I especially want to call out 1) the scene when Marius kills the second emperor's son in front of the entire Coliseum and then proceeds to call out the emperor and 2) when the emperor gets impaled on his own statue. Epic.
A lot of reviews called out the entire game is basically QTEs which is pretty accurate. If it was longer I would have gotten bored. You basically get into a loop of just comboing the guys in the same pattern and it gets pretty boring. Reminded me of the feel of Assassin's Creed and Shadow of Mordor after you play those for a while.
Honestly epic acting and story and a good time made this an easy 8.

Recalibrated the score to a 6. The gameplay made this kind of a bore to play after a while. You'd be fine watching a Let's Play and therefore I got to say this is a 6.
