Alan Wake
Review
Oof. So this game. In short, I liked the story. Very cool, reasonably heady horror scifi. A writer, Alan Wake, who gets trapped in a story he was tricked into writing. Involving another person, Thomas Zane, who did the same thing and also partially wrote Alan Wake's story. Pretty confusing stuff but pretty cool.
That story is the only reason I didn't give this a 5. Or a 4. Because the gameplay my word gets old incredibly fast. It's literally the same set of enemies for the entirety of the 11 hours I spent playing the game. The first couple of times it's kind of frightening and then it VERY quickly becomes rote. I think in the second mission I turned on cheats to have infinite ammo. Because it just became entirely too tedious. They just throw so many boring roadblocks in the way of you progressing through the story.
Which honestly it's a shame the gameplay is so bad because the environments in which they take place are pretty cool. Though, again get a little bland after a while. But again this was a game made in 2012 so grain of salt all that.
Now, that all being said, I now want to play Quantum Break to know what happens next. And THEN I'm going to go back to Control finish the Alan Wake DLC because I'm really honestly interested to see where they went with the story.
All in all, would I recommend this game? No. I'd recommend watching a Let's Play or if someone spliced together all the relevant plot videos, that'd likely be best.
