Review

Absolutely brilliant game. A little sad I only played it 9 years after it came out. That's the first time I've laughed out loud, pretty hard while playing a game in a very long time. And in fact it surprised and delighted me over and over and over. The writing and the narrator are so absolutely brilliant. The way the narrator switches from a very straightforward narration of events to a genuinely offended and hurt invididual. The way it subverses all the standard tropes in these types of games. There's a whole like 3 minutes of dialogue if you just sit in a broom closet for a while where he insults you and insists you must be dead to just sit there for so long and starts calling for help for other people in the room. It's devastatingly brilliant. How there's a whole ending that's just the narrator getting confused and ending up in a predefined set of events that is telegraphed on the screen and the narrator reads it and is confused and terrified that everything is pre-ordained. I mean wow that is just stupidly good. And then the whole museum of the game and how it was made that shows up when avoid death from the narrator by ANOTHER narrator jumping in and saving you. I mean just endless moments of brilliance. I love it.
