The Case of the Golden Idol DLC

(Treating this as a review for just the DLC, not the base game.)

Golden Idol is at its best when you can roughly intuit the order of operations and then need to do some investigation to line everything up. Then the final step is putting the puzzle pieces together. Where they lose you is when you have NO idea what the hell was supposed to happen and thus are left guessing OR you have an idea but the way they make you solve the puzzle with the "__ did ___ using the __ to __" format isn't how you would think about what happened. That then brings us to the DLC which is pretty much entirely made up of insane, convoluted plots with motives that at least to me were incredibly hard to parse or guess at.

It's cool that they delve into the background behind why everything happened and, again, I do still like this puzzle format but it's a bit too convoluted to really wholeheartedly recommend for anyone except those who really, really need more Golden Idol.

It's more Golden Idol which is good but it's more of the hardest, and most convoluted parts of Golden Idol which is not so good. This DLC has that in spades.

It's cool that they delve into the background behind why everything happened and, again, I do still like this puzzle format but it's a bit too convoluted to really wholeheartedly recommend for anyone except those who really, really need more Golden Idol.
