Review

Middling gameplay is outshined by a really cool time travel plot (with sound logical time travel mechanics!) and fantastic cast and acting, cool style, good music. The live action show is a super cool touch as well.

On the gameplay front it's an ok 3rd person shooter with ok abilities. Nothing to write home about. It's certainly much better than Alan Wake but not nearly as fun as Control. Mix in some really annoying puzzles and some annoying enemies that are hard to kill and a final boss that one shots you and forces you to reload the whole fight...and yeah not a huge fan here. This is where I knock the game the most.

The story was pretty sick. And the fact that they got such a sick cast is awesome. Lance Reddick is amazing. The antagonist, Paul, is pretty good. Hell, it's got Charlie from Lost as the brother. But Beth is probably my favorite however. One, it's the same VA as Jesse from Control which is some cool kind-of-continuity. Two the character is great. She's a tragic character who's a total badass whose entire life is determined to stop the end of time. And then she gets shot in the face by fucking Paul. And because of the mechanics of time Jack can't save her. There's even a scene where he sees her frozen and walks up to her like he's going to unfreeze her but he knows he can't and that she'll always die. After the credits it shows Jack actually saying "I'll come back for you when she's frozen." So maybe there's hope that she can be saved (even though, based on the rules established previously in the story it's impossible).

The last thing is they had a live action show with episodes you watch in addition to the game. It's solid, nothing to write home about. But definitely a super cool and original addition that I loved that was included.

All in all I really enjoyed the game. Wish there was a sequel... I want to see Beth resurrected :/

I think this game is a 6 that gets elevated to a 7 because of the novelty of the show portion. That being said, I think that's stupid so I'm going to give it a 6.
