Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Absolutely wonderful shooter. The main story was pretty tight and fun and I enjoyed playing it. But the main story is like 5% of what makes the game good. It's all about the multiplayer.

If Halo made online multiplayer a thing for consoles, COD is what perfected the formula. By borrowing the experience and ranks mechanics from Rainbow Six Vegas, they made a truly engaging gameplay loop where you wanted to play more and more to level up.

But really you wanted to play more and more because it was so fast paced and fun. God I played so much of this game in highschool. I can still remember cheesing with the noob tube, gaining enough experience to swear it off, and then raging when I'd die to the noob tube.

Talking shit in chat. Playing with friends and going on kill streaks.

I'm also remembering why I stopped playing: the game would make me SO angry. So competitive and so angry when I'd end up on a losing streak. But it was so fun and addicting I didn't want to stop so it'd turn into a negative feedback loop. Amazing.

I'll never go back and play one of these in all likelihood. I mean there have been like 10 sequels since this one. But I'll always remember what a great time it was.
