This feels harsh. I had a blast just exploring and mining when I first played this back in 2010.
(Not sure when this was written)
Minecraft's alright man. I played this was when it was in Alpha in 2010 or 2011. Got all the way up to Diamond or Platinum gear or whatever and then realized there was no real point to keep grinding as I had already explored for hours and hours and stopped playing.
This time I came back in 2021 to play and see all the content they added. The first thing I was really excited about was the ray-tracing. But turns out you can only use that on specific worlds designed to show it off. Dumb as hell. Then I just set about exploring. A bunch of new stuff showed up pretty quickly. New enemies, new creatures, new biomes, new stuff to craft, new interfaces. But ultimately the core loop seemed to be largely intact so I went about grinding up stuff. Then I ran into a town and realized it was largely a hollow feature. There were NPCs with houses but they didn't talk and there were no quests. You could just trade stuff for emeralds, some form of currency. I left. Then I looked up what the progression to the end game was because the game wasn't telling me shit. Turns out it requires a huge grind. So I stopped playing and now I'm done with Minecraft forever :)
