This game taught me a lot about sardines. It was also up until a year ago also the only Disgaea I never finished since I picked up the original on PS2 way back when. I guess I thought college life in 2012 was more interesting than grinding up yet again in the Item World. 10 years later I know how WRONG I was. We got Troy Baker as a vampire who eats fish, plentiful fan service with the return of Flonne and Axel (a personal favorite), and of course a fight with God.

I played this back in 2012 and got through 6 out of 10 chapters. I came back in Feb 2023 and finished up that original save.
What is there to call out here? It is yet another Disgaea. Oddly enough for whatever reason this is the only one I never finished the main story of. I sunk about 20 hours in and was done. Maybe because it was college, who knows. Ultimately playing it felt...the same as 3. This time you have a vampire, Valvatorez as the lead, voice by Troy Baker (I had no idea in 2012 but immediately recognized his voice in 2023).

The story is dumb as per usual. Lots of tropes and jokes. You have fan service in Axel and Flonne returning. You have a vampire that only eats sardines. And you have some human who manifests as the ultimate dark power because of some sort of protocol that God creates, a protocol you fight against as the final boss. So you kind of fight god at the end. But it's pretty underwhelming.

Mechanically it's so hard for me to tell differences being made in these games. Especially because I didn't go into the post game at all.

But at the end of the day I actually enjoyed going back and finishing it. I grinded up my characters to be OP, flummoxed the enemies in the main story. And then immediately popped in Disgaea 6 and am really enjoying myself.
