I grew up in a household devoid of the love of sports. Despite a brief period where I moonlighted as a lax bro, I was lanky and rebellious and always destined for skateboarding and snowboarding. Proper sports like football always seemed stupid, brutish, and normie to me. I went to school with people who cried when the Patriots lost to the Giants in 2008. I was baffled.

And yet even then if you asked me I'd tell you NFL Street is an absolute gem. Take the sterile stats-focused, and surgical play-based gameplay of Madden and infuse it with honest to goodness charm and style. You don't need the raw malevolent intelligence of Bill Belichick to win, you just need the innate desire to stunteth upon thine opponent. I'm making my t-shirt and tank top clad players dodge and weave through the opposition and the whole time I'm holding the ball behind my back to taunt the other team. That in turn is maxing that style meter and then I'm going Beast Mode 6 years before Marshawn Lynch is drafted into the NFL.

Even as sports games seem to have lost the spirit they had 20 years ago, the love of sports engendered in me by your NFL Streets and NHL Hitz' has only grown. So sure we don't have a new NFL Street but shit TD Garden's gonna have some Bruins games in a month so I'm happy.

???
This might be my favorite sports game of all time.
