Mass Effect 3
Review
Not gonna lie, I loved this game. It was such a good end to the series. Let me call out some highlights:
- The Thresher Maw taking out the Reaper was one of the coolest moments of any game.
- Love all the old characters coming back and having cool moments. Grunt narrowly escaping death. Mordin sacrificing himself to cure the genophage. Thane dying. Oof.
- The whole origins of the Reapers and Crucible. The fact that it was all developed over several "cycles" of all races being wiped out was so fucking cool.
- Udina getting shot. Lol.
- The final scenes with the invasion of the massive fleet.
I mean the whole ending in general. Yeah I had a blast. I think they did a great job tying a bow on all the character stories. They involved all the characters from previous games.
The ending... Hm... I do kind of wish they had a "perfect" ending. It's tough that you either A) Sacrifice Shepard to save everyone...but also make them synthetic/biotic hybrids B) Sacrifice Shepard and have a synthetic overmind Shepard control all the Reapers which seems a bit fascisty...or at least overly godlike or C) Shepard lives...but all the synthetics die. EDI noooooo.
Gameplay I was initially on the fence about. They definitely improved gunplay even more. But the fact that they had a "Theatrical" difficulty mode that enabled me to just melee all the enemies even bosses was AWESOME. I loved playing this game just face-rolling all the combat. Because the story was so awesome.
All in all, great wrap to the series. I might actually have to go and play Andromeda...which apparently takes place in a different galaxy that is wholly unaffected by the events of the first game.
