Shin Megami Tensei IV

Really very hard game. But wow the story is so cool that I think it was worth it. Really enjoyed the gritty dark atmosphere. The music was phenonemal as well. One of my favorite OSTs. Huge departure after being introduced to SMT via Persona lol.

It's weirdly a game that has stuck with me. The overall vibe brought together by the dark and depressing environments, the eerie, unique music, and the phenomenal world building really made something I haven't really found since playing it. Re-reading about the character Tayama and remembering when you first explore his secret base and realize he's been raising children to be turned into pills to feed to monsters. Like literally women are prisoners and are birthing children to be eaten by demons. It's so dark and the way it plays out as you slowly realize what's going on is so fantastic.

I mean, one of the few games I've played where I'm actually grappling with the different philosophies of the characters in the game. God I gotta play 4 apocalypse and 5 because this was such a good game.

(Yes, despite the combat which is entirely too hard and becomes pretty quickly tedious.)
